NFL Power Rankings: Week 4

NFL Power Rankings: Week 4

Week 3 was the first weekend of the 2026 season that made the league look completely drunk. Philadelphia was humiliated by a third-string quarterback, Cincinnati lost to an offense we had already buried, New England was dismantled in Jacksonville and Washington ended Seattle’s 12-game winning streak. The results did not merely shake the rankings; they grabbed the board, flipped it over and left Roger Goodell to sort the pieces.

Five teams remain undefeated, but they have not all arrived at 3-0 the same way. Buffalo survived five turnovers against the Chargers, Kansas City handled the league’s worst team, San Francisco escaped a divisional shootout, Minnesota continued strangling opposing offenses and Las Vegas erased an 11-point deficit in New Orleans. One of those sentences would have sounded like a preseason prediction. Another would have sounded like evidence that somebody had been drinking at breakfast.

Week 4 now gives us two measuring-stick games at the top. Denver visits San Francisco, while Kansas City and Las Vegas meet for control of the AFC West. The Rams and Eagles play a desperation game disguised as a matchup of contenders, and Pittsburgh and Cleveland open the week with first place in the AFC North within reach. Three weeks have created plenty of confidence, but Sunday is coming to collect receipts.

1. Buffalo Bills

Last: 2    Change: 🟢 +1

Buffalo survived five turnovers and an early double-digit deficit to beat the Chargers 24-16, improving to 3-0 in the new stadium. Josh Allen committed three of those turnovers, yet the Bills still controlled the second half and won by eight, which is the kind of ugly victory only a very good team can manufacture.

New England visits Buffalo this week, giving the Bills an opportunity to tighten their grip on the AFC East and reach 4-0. If the Patriots team that lost 35-6 in Jacksonville shows up, the Bills may be able to turn the fourth quarter into a public tour of the new stadium.

2. Kansas City Chiefs

Last: 3    Change: 🟢 +1

Kansas City moved to 3-0 with a controlled 24-10 win in Miami. Patrick Mahomes completed 20 of 24 passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns, and the Chiefs never allowed the Dolphins’ rebuilding offense to turn the afternoon into anything more stressful than a mildly annoying road trip.

The Chiefs visit the 3-0 Raiders with the AFC West lead and Las Vegas’ legitimacy both on the table. Kansas City can remind everyone that the division still belongs to Mahomes, while a loss would force Chiefs fans to spend an entire week hearing the words “first-place Raiders,” which may qualify as cruel and unusual punishment.

3. San Francisco 49ers

Last: 4    Change: 🟢 +1

San Francisco beat Arizona 36-30 and improved to 3-0, although the Cardinals made the 49ers work until the end. The offense did enough to survive a late divisional fight, but allowing 30 points and watching Mike Evans leave with a rib injury kept the victory from feeling entirely comfortable.

Denver comes to Levi’s Stadium for a serious test between a 3-0 team and a defense capable of wrecking a game. A win would make San Francisco the clear favorite in the NFC West; a loss would restart the annual discussion about whether the nearby power station has begun collecting 49ers body parts again.

4. Seattle Seahawks

Last: 1    Change: 🔴 -3

Seattle’s 12-game winning streak ended in a 33-31 loss at Washington, but the box score looked nothing like a normal defeat. The Seahawks outgained the Commanders 437-258, Sam Darnold threw for 379 yards and four touchdowns, and Seattle still lost because three turnovers produced 21 Washington points. Rookie running back Jadarian Price’s early fumble started the damage before Darnold’s two interceptions finished it.

The Seahawks return home to face the 0-3 Chargers with a chance to prove the Washington loss was self-inflicted rather than revealing. If Seattle protects the ball, Los Angeles should be overmatched; apparently the only team capable of beating the Seahawks right now is the Seahawks.

5. Minnesota Vikings

Last: 8    Change: 🟢 +3

Minnesota improved to 3-0 by beating Tampa Bay 23-16 behind another suffocating defensive performance. The Vikings protected a one-score lead, intercepted the Buccaneers’ final desperation throw and have now allowed only one touchdown over their opponents’ last 31 possessions.

Minnesota visits winless Miami with a chance to reach 4-0 and keep pace for the NFC’s top seed. Anything short of a comfortable victory will be suspicious, and an actual loss should require the Vikings to fly home through the fraud terminal.

6. Denver Broncos

Last: 11    Change: 🟢 +5

Denver erased a 16-0 halftime deficit and stunned the Rams 30-26 on Sunday night. Talanoa Hufanga returned an interception 66 yards for a touchdown, Bo Nix completed the comeback with a late keeper and Hufanga sealed the win with another interception as the Broncos improved to 2-1.

The Broncos visit undefeated San Francisco in one of Week 4’s best games, and a win would confirm that their slow start in Kansas City is ancient history. Falling behind 16-0 and waiting for Hufanga to fix everything was entertaining once; Sean Payton should resist turning it into an offensive philosophy.

7. Baltimore Ravens

Last: 10    Change: 🟢 +3

Baltimore survived Dallas 34-31 in the first NFL regular-season game in Rio de Janeiro. Lamar Jackson hit Zay Flowers for 26 yards in the final seconds, and Tyler Loop drilled the winning field goal as time expired to move the Ravens to 2-1 after a back-and-forth fight.

The winless Titans visit Baltimore, giving the Ravens a chance to stack victories and restore their place among the AFC favorites. If Baltimore needs another last-second field goal to beat Tennessee, the victory will count in the standings and nowhere else with a functioning sense of shame.

8. Las Vegas Raiders

Last: 16    Change: 🟢 +8

Las Vegas erased an 11-point second-half deficit and beat New Orleans 35-27 to move to 3-0. The Raiders scored 19 points after halftime and again showed that their rebuilt roster can win without waiting for the opponent to hand them the game.

Kansas City visits Allegiant Stadium in a battle of unbeaten teams for first place in the AFC West. Beat Mahomes and the Raiders become an actual contender; lose badly and everyone will pretend the first three weeks were a cute little preseason extension.

9. Jacksonville Jaguars

Last: 14    Change: 🟢 +5

Jacksonville demolished defending AFC champion New England 35-6 in the weekend’s most complete performance. Trevor Lawrence threw three touchdown passes, the Jaguars ran for 137 yards and two scores, and a defense that created multiple short fields turned the second half into an autopsy.

The Jaguars visit Cincinnati with a chance to prove the blowout was a breakthrough rather than one glorious afternoon in Florida. A win would move Jacksonville to 3-1 and leave the Bengals’ rebuilt defense looking like it came with parts left over from an IKEA dresser.

10. Detroit Lions

Last: 18    Change: 🟢 +8

Detroit scored exactly 31 points for the third straight week and beat the Jets 31-24. New York erased a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit, but Jahmyr Gibbs scored the deciding touchdown and the Lions sealed the game with a late strip-sack of Geno Smith.

The Lions visit Carolina on Sunday night with an opportunity to reach 3-1 and show their defense can complement the league’s most reliable scoring machine. Detroit’s offense keeps bringing 31 points to work; the defense should eventually stop treating that total like a minimum payment.

11. Chicago Bears

Last: 15    Change: 🟢 +4

Chicago embarrassed Philadelphia 27-7 on Monday night despite starting third-string quarterback Case Keenum. Keenum managed the game, added a rushing touchdown and received tremendous support from a defense that kept the Eagles scoreless until the final seconds.

The Bears host the Jets with a chance to reach 3-1 and prove their Monday night masterpiece was not a backup-quarterback fever dream. If Keenum wins again, Chicago will have a statue designed before Caleb Williams gets cleared to practice.

12. Los Angeles Rams

Last: 7    Change: 🔴 -5

The Rams led Denver 16-0 at halftime and still lost 30-26 after a chaotic second-half collapse. Matthew Stafford threw for 390 yards, but his two late interceptions to Talanoa Hufanga included a pick-six and the game-sealing turnover, dropping Los Angeles to 1-2.

The Rams visit Philadelphia in a game between two preseason NFC favorites already trying to stop their seasons from catching fire. The winner gets to call the first three weeks adversity; the loser gets to use all that August hype as kindling.

13. Pittsburgh Steelers

Last: 24    Change: 🟢 +11

Pittsburgh revived its offense and upset Cincinnati 30-27, climbing to 2-1 in the league’s most crowded division. The Steelers responded every time the Bengals threatened to take control and delivered the aggressive passing performance that was entirely absent against New England.

Pittsburgh travels to Cleveland on Thursday night with first place in the AFC North at stake. A road win would make the Steelers legitimate; a loss would leave Aaron Rodgers waking up Friday morning wondering why every divisional game feels like it was played inside a cement mixer.

14. Dallas Cowboys

Last: 13    Change: 🔴 -1

Dallas traded punches with Baltimore in Brazil before losing 34-31 on the final play. Dak Prescott and the offense kept the Cowboys alive through multiple lead changes, but the defense allowed Lamar Jackson to create one final explosive play and Tyler Loop finished the job.

The Cowboys travel to Houston for a Texas rivalry game that neither team can comfortably lose. Dallas can return to .500 and keep pace in the NFC East; fall to the 0-3 Texans and the state may need to be placed in temporary federal custody.

15. Philadelphia Eagles

Last: 6    Change: 🔴 -9

Philadelphia was humiliated 27-7 by Chicago and did not score until the closing seconds against a defense playing behind third-string quarterback Case Keenum. The Eagles produced only 248 yards, went 2-for-9 on third down, committed three turnovers and looked like a team that had spent two weeks mistaking survival for progress.

The Rams come to Philadelphia on a short week, and the Eagles need a response before 2-0 becomes 2-2 and the season turns into open auditions for 2027. If this offense disappears again, Lincoln Financial Field will run out of boos before the Mannion honeymoon officially files for divorce.

16. Cincinnati Bengals

Last: 5    Change: 🔴 -11

Cincinnati’s perfect start ended with a 30-27 home loss to Pittsburgh. The Bengals scored enough to win, but the rebuilt defense failed its first major divisional test and allowed a Steelers offense that had looked prehistoric one week earlier to discover electricity.

Jacksonville visits Cincinnati after hanging 35 points on New England, so the Bengals must decide quickly whether their defense is improved or merely wearing new uniforms. Another loss would drop them to 2-2 and turn all that August optimism into an expensive receipt nobody can return.

17. New Orleans Saints

Last: 9    Change: 🔴 -8

New Orleans built an 11-point second-half lead over Las Vegas and then watched it disappear in a 35-27 loss. The Saints allowed 19 points after halftime and fell to 1-2, wasting the kind of home opportunity that good teams use to establish themselves.

The Saints visit Atlanta on Monday night with the NFC South’s early pecking order at stake. The winner will be called a division contender, which is generous language for whichever 2-2 team crawls out of this particular dumpster first.

18. Atlanta Falcons

Last: 20    Change: 🟢 +2

Atlanta opened Week 3 by stunning Green Bay 35-14 at Lambeau Field, a result already reflected in last week’s rankings but still impossible to ignore. The Falcons controlled the game on the ground, overwhelmed the Packers defensively and rescued a season that looked ready to collapse after two weeks.

New Orleans visits Monday night after Atlanta received extra rest, and the Falcons can turn one shocking win into actual momentum. If they waste ten days of preparation against a team that just blew an 11-point lead, Kevin Stefanski may need to fire the calendar.

19. New York Giants

Last: 29    Change: 🟢 +10

The Giants beat Tennessee 12-7 in a game every bit as ugly as the score suggests. Dominic Zvada supplied all 12 points with four field goals, while the defense controlled most of the afternoon and produced a late interception after the Titans reached first-and-goal.

Arizona visits MetLife Stadium with New York holding a chance to reach a surprising 3-1. The Giants do not need to apologize for winning ugly, but if Zvada outscores the offense for another week, John Harbaugh should at least let the kicker call one red-zone play.

20. Indianapolis Colts

Last: 25    Change: 🟢 +5

Indianapolis earned its first win by surviving Houston 19-17 in a tense AFC South game. The Colts did not produce a masterpiece, but they protected a narrow lead, finished the final possessions and avoided sharing the AFC South cellar with the Titans at 0-3.

The Colts meet Washington in London with a chance to reach .500 and create separation from the bottom of the division. Win and the season is alive; lose to Marcus Mariota after crossing an ocean and the jet-lag excuses will be written before customs stamps the passports.

21. Cleveland Browns

Last: 26    Change: 🟢 +5

Cleveland held off Carolina 21-18 and improved to 2-1 after limiting one of the league’s hottest offenses to three first-half points and 113 yards before the break. The Browns found the late score they needed and have now won consecutive close games after being dismissed as a tank candidate.

Pittsburgh comes to Cleveland on Thursday night with first place in the AFC North available to the winner. The Browns can become the division’s strangest contender, although every victory continues to interfere with the draft plan everyone had already prepared for them.

22. Carolina Panthers

Last: 17    Change: 🔴 -5

Carolina’s offense woke up after halftime but could not complete the comeback in a 21-18 loss at Cleveland. The Panthers finished with 360 yards, yet their slow start and failure to cash in enough drives erased much of the excitement created by the previous week’s demolition of Atlanta.

Detroit visits on Sunday night, putting Carolina’s improved offense against a team that has scored 31 points every week. The Panthers need a signature win to re-enter the NFC South conversation, and facing the Lions is a wonderful way to learn whether that Week 2 defense actually existed.

23. Green Bay Packers

Last: 22    Change: 🔴 -1

Green Bay’s 35-14 Thursday night humiliation against Atlanta was already included in last week’s rankings, leaving the Packers extra time to study exactly how a supposed contender gets pushed around in its own stadium. They are 1-2, and the lone victory required overtime against the Jets.

The Packers visit 0-3 Tampa Bay in a game that should provide relief but carries enormous downside. Win and Green Bay can begin repairing the season; lose and Packers fans may start scouting draft prospects before Wisconsin has finished pretending it is still summer.

24. Washington Commanders

Last: 31    Change: 🟢 +7

Washington earned its first win by upsetting defending champion Seattle 33-31 behind Marcus Mariota and a defense that turned three takeaways into 21 points. The Commanders were outgained 437-258, but they protected the football, punished every Seattle mistake and ended the Seahawks’ 12-game winning streak.

Washington faces Indianapolis in London with an opportunity to prove the upset was more than one opportunistic afternoon. A second straight win would revive the season, but one passport stamp and a plus-three turnover margin do not yet make this team an international powerhouse.

25. New York Jets

Last: 23    Change: 🔴 -2

The Jets erased a 24-10 fourth-quarter deficit in Detroit before losing 31-24. Geno Smith threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns, but his late fumble ended the comeback and left New York at 1-2 despite showing far more offense than expected.

The Jets visit Chicago and its suddenly dangerous defense with a chance to convert competitive losses into an actual victory. New York is earning respect, which is lovely, but the NFL has stubbornly refused to add moral victories to the playoff tiebreakers.

26. Arizona Cardinals

Last: 21    Change: 🔴 -5

Arizona pushed undefeated San Francisco throughout a 36-30 loss and scored 17 fourth-quarter points to keep the game alive. The effort was encouraging, but allowing 36 points and falling to 1-2 confirmed that the Cardinals still need more than offensive flashes to beat a complete team.

Arizona visits the Giants in one of its most winnable remaining road games. The Cardinals can return to .500, and if they cannot slow an offense that just won with four field goals, defensive coordinator instructions should be reduced to “please try anything.”

27. New England Patriots

Last: 12    Change: 🔴 -15

New England was destroyed 35-6 in Jacksonville, the worst performance of the young season by a team that reached the AFC Championship Game last year. The Patriots turned the ball over, failed to finish drives and allowed the Jaguars to pair 137 rushing yards with three Trevor Lawrence touchdown passes.

The Patriots now visit undefeated Buffalo, which is approximately the least considerate matchup the schedule could provide. A competitive response would stabilize New England; another blowout would make the defending AFC finalists look like ceremonial ribbon-cutters for the Bills’ new stadium.

28. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Last: 27    Change: 🔴 -1

Tampa Bay fell to 0-3 with a 23-16 home loss to Minnesota and lost Baker Mayfield to a dislocated thumb late in the game. The Buccaneers punted nine times, struggled again in the red zone and had their final desperation throw intercepted near the goal line.

Green Bay visits in a matchup between two teams already trying to keep September from ruining the entire season. Tampa Bay must find a quarterback plan and its first win; at this rate, TB stands for “Trouble Brewing,” because the organization has apparently exhausted every other possible version.

29. Los Angeles Chargers

Last: 28    Change: 🔴 -1

The Chargers forced five Buffalo turnovers, built an early double-digit lead and still lost 24-16 to fall to 0-3. Los Angeles had every opportunity to steal a road win from the top team in these rankings and instead proved that creating chaos is useless if the offense cannot cash it in.

The Chargers visit Seattle, where another loss would turn a supposedly reimagined contender into an 0-4 afterthought. Jim Harbaugh was hired to build a bully; right now the Chargers are the free square on everybody else’s confidence-building worksheet.

30. Houston Texans

Last: 19    Change: 🔴 -11

Houston lost 19-17 in Indianapolis and dropped to 0-3 despite winning the turnover battle. The defense again kept the game manageable, but the offense remained unreliable and failed to produce enough points against a Colts team that entered the afternoon winless.

Dallas visits for a rivalry game that now doubles as an emergency. Houston can save its season and claim state bragging rights, but another offensive failure will turn C.J. Stroud’s maximum-extension discussion into a missing-person investigation.

31. Tennessee Titans

Last: 30    Change: 🔴 -1

Tennessee lost 12-7 to the Giants and fell to 0-3 after failing to score until the fourth quarter. The Titans reached first-and-goal on their final possession but threw an interception, wasting a defensive performance that did not allow a touchdown.

The Titans travel to Baltimore for a matchup that offers very little mercy and even less margin for another slow start. Keeping it close would be progress, but Tennessee cannot hang another “almost beat somebody” banner without reinforcing the rafters.

32. Miami Dolphins

Last: 32    Change: Unchanged

Miami lost 24-10 to Kansas City and fell to 0-3, showing modest defensive resistance without producing enough offense to threaten an upset. The Dolphins have scored only 36 points through three games and remain the league’s clearest rebuilding project.

Undefeated Minnesota comes to Miami with a defense that has spent three weeks making functional offenses look broken. The Dolphins’ historic dead-cap experiment was supposed to be fascinating; at 0-3, it looks less like a laboratory and more like a crime scene with salary-cap paperwork.
